About 3 million Jews have repatriated to Israel since its foundation. Among them there are people almost from all over the world: from Russia and the USA, Poland and Morocco, Argentina and Ethiopia, Yemen and Iraq. A task to transform numerous immigrants into a united nation appeared to be unpredictably difficult for the young state. In other countries, in the USA, for example, newcomers adapt themselves to the way of life established by the majority. The thing is that in Israel that kind of majority has never existed. That's why repatriates not only adapt the set traditions but also affect them, thus changing appearance of the Israeli society. The collection of articles "Migration process and its influence on Israeli society" was published upon the results of the International scientific conference, which was held in Moscow, autumn 1999. |
