Lvov. May 15 the city hosted a regional seminar on teaching the problems of memory of ethnic tragedies' victims in Ukraine. It was organized by the International center "Holocaust" named after Dr. A.Shwarts at the National University "Lvovskaya politekhnika" (head - prof. R.Mirsky) together with Center for Holocaust history studies of NAS of Ukraine (head - senior research officer A.Podolsky).
Seminar's participants were acquainted with informational and methodical materials "Teaching "Holocaust" theme at higher school" developed under the leadership of professor R.Mirsky.
The seminar adopted the recommendations "Inter-ethnic accord: common past - common future. Teaching of Holocaust problems and ethnic tragedies in Ukraine at higher school".
Kiev region. May 19 the IV festival of Association of small towns' communities of Ukraine headed by P.N.Rashkovsky was held in Irpen. The festival dedicated to 10th anniversary of Association was named "We come from shtetle" and included performances by art collectives chiefly in Yiddish and Hebrew. Performers demonstrated good knowledge of Jewish languages and, in particular, proved Yiddish stopped dying.
At present the number of children speaking Yiddish is bigger than 50 years ago. City mayor and other festival's guests highly estimated the represented forms of Jewish cultural development in Ukraine.

Kiev. The first in Europe woman-moel - member of Kiev community of progressive Judaism Diana Kutik finishes her education at Kiev medical university. During Shavuot festivities Chief Rabbi of religious association of progressive Judaism's communities A.Dukhovny handed over a moel's certificate to her. Other participants of the event greeted Diana after this.
Kiev. A traditional meeting of friends of the Sholom-Aleikhem society dedicated to the theme "Jewish note of Victory" was held May 12. Head of the society, member of Union of writers of Ukraine G.Folkovich read his verses. Professor F.Levitas told about victims and feasts of Jews during WWII. Art historian L.Karotina presented a story about songs written by Jews - front-line soldiers. Participants greeted GPWar veterans and performers of songs on war.
Kiev. Shavuot festivities in Kiev Jewish community ended May 19 in a series of events held at the House of culture (HC) of MIA of Ukraine. HC hosted performances of the Jewish song theatre "Neshome", showing of the feature film "Violin player on the roof", 'KVN' contest of three teams consisting principally of International Solomon University's students and performances of klesmer collectives.
