April 20-21 the European Council of Jewish Communities (ECJC) held its meeting in Brussels. Particular attention was paid to the situation in Israel, outburst of anti-Semitism in Western Europe and attitude by Jewish organizations towards documents worked out by European organizations. The Council adopted a program of actions related to program "Arahim-2002", European Day of Jewish culture and meeting of presidents of Jewish communities in Prague in November. The extraordinary meeting in Brussels was attended by over 100 delegates from 35 countries. President of Belgian Senate Armand Dekker greeted the gathering and on behalf of king Albert awarded president of World Jewish Congress (WJC) Edgar Bronfman and head of the WJC General Council Israel Zinger with St. Leopold's order. He condemned anti-Semitic actions, too. The meting adopted four resolutions concerning, first of all, creating a new European Jewish informational center
One of its main achievements became an agreement "On the use of own resources and experience for the sake of joint activity to further strengthen a Jewish voice in Europe", concluded between the European Council of Jewish Communities and European Jewish Congress (EJC). They plan to create a joint coordination committee to exchange information and develop a strategy of actions. April 23 another presentation - that of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) was held. Avi Bekker presented Alexandre Mashkevich, EAJC President, and chaired the sitting dedicated to Euro-Asia. The last session dealt with the Latin America's issues: the situation in Argentine and problems of Jews in Venezuela.
