Russian-Jewish periodicals are an ocean boundless in all four or five dimensions - in space, time, quantity... Tens of countries, hundreds of towns, a thousand and a half different editions, millions of pages are involved. We offer to begin with only four brief looks at newspaper seas and magazine bays. It's possible to call them four snapshots with the interval in 40 years. In the times of Moshe Rabeinu this was a lifetime term, at present - only half of it. For how long shall we, the present generation of a desert, wander together with our infinite periodicals? We have 142 years behind us so far. Who can write the history of our press for us and our descendants but us? We begin publishing stories about periodicals of Ukraine and in the world. We are collecting materials and, most important, - issues of old and new newspapers. |
