Cherkassy region. Almost 8 thousand Jews-Hasids arrived in Ukraine to meet Rosh a-Shan in Uman - near the grave of a founder of Bratslav movement in Hasidism Rabbi Nakhman. The press-center of "Borispol" airport informed that more than 7 thousand people had arrived via the air companies of "El-AL" (Israel) and "Aerosweet" (Ukraine) only form Israel.

After the Hasid pilgrimage into Ukraine had renewed, Uman welcomed in 1988 from three to five thousand persons (official data).

Zhitomir region. A Jewish school was opened at the beginning of academic year in Berdichev. Primary school forms are active, so far.

Children will study according to a general Ukrainian school program and will also learn Hebrew and Jewish traditions.

Zaporozhje region. The Jewish community of Melitopol held a charitable concert for citizens on the eve of Rosh a-Shana. Beside amateur artists of the city Jewish community, alumni of the palace of children and youth creative work as well as an amateur choir collective from a Tambovka village of the Melitopol region took part in the concert.

Nikolayev. An excursion route "Jewish Nikolayev" has become active in the city. The route is developed in the Jewish culture society. It covers city Jewish places related to the past and present of the community life.

Dnepropetrovsk. An official solemn ceremony of honouring 19 "Righteous men of Peace" took place in a "Golden Rose" choral synagogue.

For almost 40 years the memorial museum Yad va-Shem in Jerusalem, pursuant to a special Law adopted in 1953, is home to a public commission on recognition and commemoration of virtues of "Righteous men of peace" - non-Jews who saved Jews during the Catastrophe.

As of now there are 1755 Righteous men of Peace in Ukraine.

Khmelnitskiy region. In Medzhibozh, where a founder of Hasidism Rabbi Israel Baal Shem-Tov is buried, several events dedicated to his birthday were held late in August. Hundreds of representatives of Hasid movement in Judaism gathered at the grave of the righteous man. A new Torah roll was solemnly brought in to the synagogue near the grave of great Rabbi.

A seminar on "Preparation to the Tishrey month holidays" was held for representatives of Jewish communities of different cities of the South -Western Ukrainian region, the center of which is in Zhitomir.

Zhitomir region. An enterprise manufacturing kosher meat was opened in Berdichev. Earlier Berdichev Jews were forced to purchase kosher meat in other cities. It was very inconvenient and rather expensive. Now there is an opportunity to buy super-kosher meat - so-called "Shkhitat Khabad-Lubavich" in the city. For local Jews meat is sold for half of cost price. That gives a real possibility to stick to the laws of kashrut. It is interesting, Shkhitat Khabad-Liubavich is not produced even in Jerusalem. It is brought there form other cities.

The enterprise cannot yet satisfy the requirements of all Jews of Berdichev and is looking for sponsors for its development.

Vinnitsa region. A synagogue building in Zhmerinka has been passed over to Jews. After a long court trial the Zhmerinka Jewish community has obtained the right to own the building where 60 years ago a synagogue used to be. A 90-year-old Efraim Shnaider, who was once the owner of the building, won the court trial against the insurance company. It obtained the building after the synagogue closure.

An official opening of the synagogue took place in Zhmerinka. There were present Chief Rabbi of South Western region of Ukraine Shlomo Wilgelm and Vinnitsa Rabbi Shaul Gorovits, who recently came into office.
