More than twenty editors of Jewish newspapers of Ukraine gathered October 18 -19 for a work meeting in the Kiev institute for social and community workers.

Year after year Jews of Odessa, according to the established sorrowful tradition, observe in October one of the most tragic dates in the history of the town. At the very beginning of the Odessa occupation the Nazis committed a fearful crime. Fascists drove together thousands of people into so-called "gun powder" ordnance depots. Thousands of people perished there. They were burnt alive...

Charity, the Torah and Talmud laid the foundations of, has always been peculiar of Jews. Once you are rich, well-to-do - do not evoke divine anger, help the poor and unfortunate. Tzedaka's noble principles have again come into use in the Jewish life of Ukraine after the community started getting to its feet. The Jewish fund of Ukraine, which renders assistance to many in need - from war veterans to students and scholars, has recently marked its fifth anniversary.

An elderly person... What do we mean by these words? What feelings does this word combination - elderly person - generate? There are, probably, people who have never pondered about this. "The elderly" for them are their grandmothers and grandfathers, and they never recall about others.

In past times this event in Donetsk would have been called historical. The Chief Rabbi of Donetsk, and in his person the whole community of the region, was awarded the first-rate Golden Medal of " the 10th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence", in the nomination for "active charity activity, promoting friendship between nations, developing culture, arts and education in Donbass".
