CHESS CLUB «GAMBIT»
YEFIM SLOBODYANSKY
Main page To print

A chess club "Gambit' organized under the khesed "Mikol Anashama" is active in Mariupol since 1999. Its permanent leader is our volunteer Zinovy Belov. This keen on chess person has a huge desire to convey his experience and knowledge of a chess player to all those willing to join in this interesting and wise game!

Our long-awaited dream has recently come true. A "Gambit" chess club's team has found a worthy sparring partner in the khesed "Debora" in Berdyansk. We swiftly developed "regulations" on the match, settled all organizational matters! Finally, a bus took us - the chess elite of Mariupol, war veterans, first - class chess players Roman Zadai, Vladimir Mazursky, the only woman Yelizaveta Gordienko, candidates to masters Zinovy Belov and Yevgeny Vinetsky - to Berdyansk. Friendly handshakes on meeting the hosts, casting of lots - and the match began! Rather young sportsmen from Berdyansk were struggling with experienced chess fighters from Mariupol on five chessboards.

I will not comment here on the match course and its outcome on the whole. This is not so important. The main thing is that this match gave a mighty impetus to popularizing chess.

The final was traditional: exchange of souvenirs, sweetmeats, pictures for the memory.

I would like to express a big gratitude to the director of khesed "Mikol Anashama" Ludmila Mitrofanova for the support, and Veronika Mikhteeva - the receiving party - for the hospitality.

In conclusion, we address through the newspaper all kheseds of South - Eastern Ukraine, "Invite us, come to us, we shall be glad to receive any offers!"
