GOALS


The Union of Jewish Religious Organizations of Ukraine was founded in 1992. Today, it incorporates 62 religious communities from all of Ukraine's regions.

Objectives and tasks of the Union

Building up efforts and coordination of actions of the Jewish religious organizations of Ukraine to profess and spread Judaism

Plenipotentiary representation and protection of the interests of the religious organizations at all levels in Ukraine and abroad

Assistance to Jewish religious organizations:

  • in keeping the laws of Judaism;
  • in supplying religious objects and literature;
  • in carrying out educational programs;
  • in funding the activities of organizations and communities through setting up domestic or drawing foreign charity funds;
  • in establishing international contacts and ties with Jewish and other communities and organizations world-wide;
  • in protecting religious and other human rights;
  • in carrying out an inter-denominational dialogue;
  • in assisting communities and organizations to preserve, renovate and keep in order cemeteries, sites and facilities that are linked with the Jewish history and culture.

  • Program for Assistance to Jewish Communities in Small Towns. This program envisages monthly financial aid to the citizens of small towns. Money is spent on communal payments and material aid to community members (lonely elderly people), material humanitarian aid and consultative assistance to Jews.

  • Theological Institute - Yeshiva under the Union was founded in 1995. Today, it is the only institution of higher learning officially registered in Ukraine. The main tasks of the Institute are: training specialists in Judaism, history of the Jewish nation, its traditions and customs as well as carrying out scientific research.

  • The Union is a cofounder of the Charity Jewish Fund Magen-Avot - a patronizing service and canteens for elderly people in need (49 in Ukraine).

  • The Committee for Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Ukraine is involved in:
    • collection, research, systematization of facilities of the Jewish heritage: cemeteries, synagogues, prayer houses and other religious facilities;
    • genealogical research of the history of Jewish families in Ukraine;
    • organization of Jewish tours all over Ukraine.

  • The Union is a cofounder of the Center for Jewish Education in Ukraine. The Center is involved in training personnel for the Jewish schools in Ukraine and development of teachers' manuals.

  • Ukraine's Sole Matza Manufactory annually provides all cities of Ukraine with matza for Pesach.

  • The Kashrut Department under the Union. The Department ensures: keeping of Kashrut laws according to the laws of Judaism, supplying kosher foods for the Jews of Ukraine, personnel training.

  • The Yachad (Together) TV Program.
